Conference Basics
The conference theme is Tūhono – Weaving Relational Heritage Spaces. The event runs from 29 November to 2 December 2026, with a day of optional pre-conference tours and activities on November 28.
ACHS 2026 is being hosted by the Museum & Heritage Studies programme at Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington in Aotearoa New Zealand on behalf of ACHS.
A draft programme outline is currently available on the website. The full detailed programme will be released on October 30.
Participating at the conference
The Call for Papers closed on 10 February 2026.
All notifications were sent to the lead author on June 27. Please check your spam folder or contact the team with the lead author’s name and email.
If your proposal was selected, you can confirm your spot to present by registering for the conference. After Early Bird registration closes on Oct 1, we will begin to prepare the final detailed conference programme. If you have not registered by then, but still wish to present, please let us know by emailing events@twelveconferences.nz.
If, for any reason, you no longer wish to present at the conference, please email events@twelveconferences.nz to let us know, so that we can remove you from the list of presentations to be scheduled.
Yes, you can update it by emailing events@twelveconferences.nz with your name, paper title and number, and the changes you wish to make.
No, presentation is in-person only, with the exception of Tūwhiti te hopo – Heritage Bites .
Yes, there will be an event on the pre-conference day (Nov 28) to allow ECRs to network and explore some of Wellington’s heritage sites together. Tūwhiti te hopo – Heritage Bites on the afternoon of Day 1 will also have an ECR focus.

Yes, current ACHS membership is mandatory to register. Please sign up or renew your membership on the Association of Critical Heritage Studies website before registering. You will be asked to provide your ACHS membership number during the registration process. (Note that the ACHS membership system and the conference registration system are separate and have different logins).
If you pay by credit card, then you automatically get sent the invoice which shows payment received. If paying by direct credit (banking), a receipt is not automatically issued but is available on request by emailing events@twelveconferences.nz.
Full-time students can register for a reduced fee (proof of current, full-time enrolment is required), but otherwise there are no discounts. The registration fee covers the costs of hosting the conference and we are not able to reduce or waive the fees.
No, unfortunately, as a small academic programme organising the conference on behalf of ACHS, we do not have the resources to offer financial support to attendees.
While presentations are strictly in-person, selected keynote sessions may be recorded or streamed online. An announcement will be made closer to the event.
Travel, Discounts & Logistics
You should fly into Wellington International Airport (WLG), which is a 15–20 minute drive from the central city and venue.
If you are coming from overseas, we strongly recommend arriving a few days in advance of the conference to allow yourself time to acclimatise and recover from any jetlag. Many international flights to Wellington transit through Auckland or Christchurch, so you could consider a stop-over to explore either of those cities. We will be posting about interesting things to see and do, with a heritage-focus, between now and the conference – so stay tuned! Also, you might plan to arrive in Wellington in time to participate in the pre-conference day.
Yes, a pre-conference field trip to Hongoeka Marae and Porirua is scheduled for Saturday, 28 November. Spaces are strictly limited and must be booked via the main registration form. Further bookable tours and activities (including an event for Early Career Researchers and Practitioners) will be announced in due course.
Yes, exclusive discount codes for flights and hotel stays are available for attendees. Please visit the appropriate pages on the website (under the Plan tab) to claim your partner provider codes.
To request a formal invitation letter, please visit the Travel and Visas page on our website. On this page, you will find an online form that you can complete in order to request a letter of invitation (including all the information that we need from you - see heading ‘Letter of Invitation’).
